Usha George is the immediate past Director of the Toronto Metropolitan Centre for Immigration and Settlement, where she led three major research studies: a SSHRC Insight Grant on the citizenship experiences of racialized women in Toronto; a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant on Syrian resettlement; and an IRCC-funded Service Delivery Improvement Grant on the entrepreneurial activities of newcomers in Ontario. She was recently awarded a SSHRC grant to explore the integration experiences of South Asian women in the Greater Toronto Area.

From 2016 to 2017 Usha served as interim Vice-president, Research and Innovation at ³ÉÈË´óƬ and as the Dean of the Faculty of Community Services from 2006 to 2016. In 2015, she was awarded the Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership. She is the past director of the Ontario Metropolis Centre of Excellence for Immigration and Settlement (CERIS). Usha’s scholarly activities span the continuum of immigrant transition from newcomers to citizens. Her research has attracted over $14 million in funding. She has published extensively on immigrant settlement and integration and her work has contributed to policy and program changes in the area of newcomer settlement. She has paid special attention to the intersectionality of oppressions faced by racialized immigrant women.
