In 2012 Frau Gerolds Garten was installed in Zurich with support from the University of Applied Sciences Zurich and The Office of Parks and Open Spaces of Zurich. The project features a mostly-outdoor bar and restaurant combined with a vegetable and herb garden. The space is animated by the inclusion of small pop-up stores, art studios, creative activities, and in good weather, a Saturday flea market and designer market. In addition, mini toad ponds are included in the garden. Art and gardening combine in this space with a large mural project by the artist Sarah Parsons. Other artists will contribute to the project, creating a large wall covered with local art.
Because the site will be developed at a future date, everything at Frau Gerolds Garten is portable, from the garden 鈥� with over one hundred boxes for growing 鈥� to the restaurant and pop-up stores made from shipping containers. The garden occupies about one fifth of the site nearest to the railroad tracks on the sunny south side. In addition to supplying the restaurant, it serves as a demonstration garden, showcasing the herbs, salad greens, vegetables and fruit that thrive in small containers. The proprietors hope that this will inspire customers to replicate container growing throughout the city, fostering this by encouraging locals to volunteer in the garden.
A platform covering several shipping containers provides rooftop space for an outdoor summer dining experience for about 200 guests. A view out towards extensive railway yards is one spectacular feature of this terrace. Additional seating on ground level intersperses diners with large plants in containers, and large canvas sails and umbrellas create shade in summer. At night, white lights strung across the space turn the garden into a warm and twinkly retreat. In winter about 100 people can be served indoors, when the garden adds a temporary wooden house with a fireplace for a cozy, dining environment. The initiative thus transformed an underused lot awaiting development into a 鈥渢ranquil modular city summer garden,鈥� a vibrant neighbourhood hub.

Le jardin se compose principalement d鈥檜n bar et d鈥檜n restaurant en plein air, associ茅s 脿 un jardin potager. De petites boutiques d茅montables, ateliers artistiques, activit茅s cr茅atives animent l鈥檈space ; quand les conditions m茅t茅orologiques le permettent, un march茅 aux puces et un march茅 de d鈥檕bjets con莽us par des artistes ont aussi lieu le samedi. Le jardin comprend 茅galement de toutes-petites mares. Dans cet espace, l鈥檃rt c么toie le jardinage 脿 travers un grand projet mural de l鈥檃rtiste Sarah Parsons. Du fait qu鈥檌l est pr茅vu de d茅velopper le site ult茅rieurement, tout ce qui compose le Frau Gerolds Garten peut 锚tre d茅plac茅, du jardin 鈥� avec ses plus de cent bo卯tes pour la culture de v茅g茅taux 鈥� au restaurant et aux boutiques construites avec de conteneurs maritimes. Le jardin occupe 脿 peu pr猫s un cinqui猫me du site, le long des voies ferr茅es, du c么t茅 ensoleill茅 expos茅 au sud. En plus de fournir le restaurant, il sert de jardin de d茅monstration o霉 plantes aromatiques, salades vertes, l茅gumes et fruits sont pr茅sent茅s dans de petits conteneurs. Les propri茅taires esp猫rent ainsi donner aux clients l鈥檈nvie d鈥檌nstaller ce type de conteneurs dans toute la ville et favorisent cela en encourageant les habitants du quartier 脿 travailler b茅n茅volement dans le jardin.
Une plateforme, qui recouvre plusieurs conteneurs maritimes, forme un toit offrant 脿 environ 200 cents h么tes la possibilit茅 de d卯ner en plein air. Cette terrasse offre 茅galement une vue exceptionnelle sur le vaste paysage ferroviaire alentour. Au rez-de-chauss茅e, d鈥檃utres h么tes peuvent prendre place parmi les plantes luxuriantes dans des conteneurs, 脿 l鈥檕mbre de grandes toiles et de parasols en 茅t茅. Le soir, de nombreuses lumi猫res blanches suspendues font du jardin un endroit chaleureux et scintillant. En hiver, une centaine de personnes peuvent 锚tre servies 脿 l鈥檌nt茅rieur, dans une salle cylindrique avec une chemin茅e qui est install茅e au sein du jardin 鈥� un espace o霉 d卯ner dans une atmosph猫re confortable. Le projet a ainsi transform茅 un terrain sous-exploit茅 en un 芦 jardin d鈥櫭﹖茅 citadin modulaire 禄, 脿 la fois un espace de tranquillit茅 et un lieu plein de vie dans le quartier.
