In March 2015, Chulalongkorn University opened an urban agricultural learning center called Siam Green Sky (SGS) on the rooftop of the Siam Square One Shopping mall, located at the one of the busiest intersections in Bangkok. The initial investment on the roof was approximately US$ 161,700, covering an area of 2 000 m2, making it probably Thailand鈥檚 largest rooftop garden. It offers agricultural learning experiences to visitors and students free of charge, focusing on the dissemination of innovative agriculture, landscape management, art, urban ecology, and safe food production processes. SGS was designed and developed based on three main ideas: a learning center, agricultural awareness, and social networking. Here, Thai farmers鈥� methods are brought to the heart of the city so that urban residents can absorb some of their knowledge.
SGS also creates renewable energy from solar panels, and has a major water catchment system, helping slow the water flow in times of heavy downpour, enhancing the drainage efficiency of the area. At the same time, it reduces the heat inside the building by 3-4 掳C as well as the outside temperature in the garden area by as much as 7 掳C.
The rooftop garden is divided into three parts. The 鈥渋nnovative farming plot鈥� covers the largest area; visitors can observe the process of making organic fertilizer from food waste, the cultivation of plants suitable for different areas, and the planting of flowers, edible plants, herbs, and rice. The 鈥渕ultifarious plant plot鈥� features different plant types displayed in various sections. The 鈥済arden plants plot鈥� highlights attractive plants that are easy to grow and maintain for those who have limited time and knowledge of cultivation.
An indoor space and a large outdoor patio are used for multiple purposes. Free workshops are held on Saturdays on topics such as how to use hydroponics systems to grow vegetables, growing rice, and vertical gardens for those living in a condominium. Additionally, every 3rd weekend of the month, a Siam Green Market is held where organic food is sold. The space has also been used to display an exhibition of works by Thai artists. Siam Green Sky, a green haven right at the heart of Siam Square, brings agricultural education to the dense urban core.

En mars 2015, l鈥橴niversit茅 Chulalongkorn a mis en place un centre d鈥檃pprentissage agricole en milieu urbain nomm茅 Siam Green Sky (SGS) sur le toit du Centre Commercial Siam Square One, situ茅 dans l鈥檜n des carrefours les plus anim茅s de Bangkok. L鈥檌nvestissement initial pour l鈥檌nstallation du toit-potager s鈥櫭﹍evait 脿 environ 161700 US$. Couvrant une surface de 2000 m2, cela en fait probablement la toiture jardin la plus vaste de Tha茂lande. Etudiants ou simples visiteurs se voient offrir gratuitement une possibilit茅 d鈥檃pprentissage agricole mettant l鈥檃ccent sur la diffusion d鈥檜ne agriculture innovante, l鈥檃m茅nagement paysager, l鈥檃rt, l鈥櫭ヽologie urbaine, et sur des proc茅d茅s de production alimentaire s没rs. De par sa conception, SGS est bas茅 sur trois principes fondamentaux: cr茅ation d鈥檜n centre d鈥檃pprentissage, sensibilisation agricole et r茅seautage social. Il cherche 脿 reproduire au c艙ur de la ville le mode de vie des agriculteurs tha茂landais afin de permettre la transmission de leurs savoir-faire et m茅thodes de travail aux citadins.
En outre, SGS produit de l鈥櫭﹏ergie renouvelable 脿 partir de panneaux solaires et dispose d鈥檜n bassin hydrographique permettant de stabiliser le niveau de l鈥檈au en cas d鈥檃verse, assurant le bon fonctionnement du syst猫me de drainage de la zone. Par ailleurs, il permet de r茅duire de 3 脿 4 掳C la chaleur 脿 l鈥檌nt茅rieur du b芒timent et de faire baisser d鈥檃u moins 7 掳C la temp茅rature ext茅rieure.
Le potager est divis茅 en trois parties. La 芦 parcelle d茅di茅e aux pratiques d鈥橝griculture Innovante 禄 occupe la majeure partie de l鈥檈space; les visiteurs peuvent y observer la fabrication d鈥檈ngrais organique 脿 partir de d茅chets alimentaires, la culture de plantes adapt茅es 脿 diff茅rentes localit茅s, la culture de fleurs, de plantes comestibles, d鈥檋erbes et de riz. La 芦 parcelle des plantes multiples 禄 pr茅sente une d茅clinaison de diff茅rents types de plantes. Le 芦 parc de plantes de jardin 禄 met en 茅vidence des plantes attrayantes et faciles 脿 cultiver et 脿 entretenir pour ceux qui ont peu de temps et/ou des savoir-faire limit茅s dans le domaine agricole.
Un espace int茅rieur et un grand patio ext茅rieur sont utilis茅s 脿 des fins multiples. Des ateliers gratuits et ouverts au public sont organis茅s le samedi sur des sujets tels que comment exploiter la culture hors-sol pour produire des l茅gumes, comment cultiver du riz dans un jardin et enfin comment mettre en place des jardins verticaux pour ceux qui vivent en copropri茅t茅. En outre, chaque troisi猫me week-end du mois, un march茅 vert nomm茅 芦 Siam Green Market 禄 proposant de la nourriture biologique est organis茅. L鈥檈space a 茅galement 茅t茅 utilis茅 pour pr茅senter une exposition d鈥櫯搖vres d鈥檃rtistes tha茂landais. Siam Green Sky, havre de verdure inhabituel en plein c艙ur de Siam Square, ouvre des perspectives d鈥櫭ヾucation 脿 l鈥檃griculture dans un contexte intra-urbain tr猫s dense
