Spotlight

In Ravi Ravindran鈥檚 award-winning research, he creates eco-conscious, lightweight materials for the transportation sector. In his classroom, he helps shape the future of the engineering profession. Underlying both is a passion for what he does. 鈥淢y research and teaching are equally fulfilling,鈥 he says.

Ravindran refers to his students as 鈥渆xtended family鈥 and nurtures them at every stage of the academic journey. His attentiveness and commitment to student development are so inspirational, that all of his current PhD students have been with him since they were undergraduates, and many have gone on to win the prestigious NSERC Canada Graduate Scholarship and to emerge as leaders in their field.

Their success is a point of pride for Ravindran. He speaks passionately about the impact of his students鈥 research on efficiency, energy and environment as if the work were his own 鈥 and in many ways, it is. Ravindran鈥檚 team approach means that everyone plays a role, empowering his students throughout the process. 鈥淲hat fun it is to help them find their own path,鈥 he says.
