IMA Film alum thesis project gains global recognition
Image Arts 鈥� Film alum Dani Sadun is gaining international recognition with her animated thesis project, Frida in the Sky, now featured on 鈥攁n online launchpad for the next generation of great filmmakers.
The short follows eight-year-old Frida, an engineering prodigy secretly building a plane for her chronically ill grandmother. Set between Ecuadorian and Canadian cultures, the story explores intergenerational bonds and identity鈥攁ll without dialogue.
鈥淲ith the help of my professors and peers, year by year I was able to find the drive behind my craft and tell stories that genuinely come from the heart. However, I also learned the reality of filmmaking, especially for independent production,鈥� says Sadun, reflecting on her time in the program. 鈥淚 learned about how complex it can be, but also under the guidance of our professors who are actually in the industry, I was able to grasp a realistic approach to film production.鈥�
Selected by over 20 festivals worldwide and named a Student Academy Award semi-finalist, Frida in the Sky stands out as both a technical feat and an emotional journey.
