Field Placement Information

Field placements provide you with a rewarding opportunity to put theory into practice. You鈥檒l gain valuable experience in a variety of settings such as primary classrooms, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, and early learning and care programs.

Part-time placement schedule

Courses are 22 full days in duration. Depending on the term, students may attend placement 3 or 5 days per week.

Non-Academic Documentation

Note that non-academic documentation can take several weeks to complete. It is important to begin the process early to ensure that all documents are submitted by the required due date. Submit your non-academic documentation by the dates below.

How to submit non-academic documentation

All non-academic documentation is submitted electronically to ecsfielded@torontomu.ca.

When all non-academic documents are completed scan or take a clear photo of each document and send one email that includes the following:

  • images of all documents with the processing/expiration date clearly visible
  • your full name
  • your 成人大片 student number

The following pieces of non-academic documentation are required for all students completing a CLD 161 first year field placement in winter or spring.

1. Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

  • Students must have a Canadian mailing address to apply for a Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Processed by the police service in the municipality where you reside.
  • If you reside in the city of Toronto (Postal Code starts with M), contact than.le@torontomu.ca for the Toronto Police Service VSC Agency Code and submit your application online.
  • If you reside outside of Toronto, contact your local police service to determine the application process.
  • The application form must be processed within six months of the placement start date.

2. Immunization form

  • Completed by a health care provider in the Province of Ontario. 
  • TB Skin Test must be processed within six months of your placement start date.
  • Review the immunization requirements.

3. Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C

  • Contact the Canadian Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance, 成人大片 Sports and Recreation or a certifying agency of your choice.

4. Ontario Ministry of Labour - "Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training in 4 Steps" (see link below)

  • Complete the eLearning module below and submit a copy of your Proof of Completion certificate.
  • Direct-Entry students are required to obtain this certification.

These requirements apply to all placements in years two and three

2. TB test form

  • Completed by a health care provider in the Province of Ontario.
  • Must be processed within six months of the placement start date.

3. Certificate in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.

  • Contact the Canadian Red Cross, St. John's Ambulance, 成人大片 Sports and Recreation or a certifying agency of your choice.
  • First Aid Certificate must be valid on the first day of placement. Check your certification to determine the expiration date.

Note that your self-selected placement site may require additional non- academic documents.
