Themes

Our research at the Global Migration Institute is organized around five interconnected themes, outlined below. Across these themes, we study migration from multiple angles, exploring topics including the drivers of migration, how policy impacts mobility, and the role that migration plays in communities, labour markets, health systems, and public life in different parts of the world.

The Institute is based in Toronto, one of the world鈥檚 most diverse cities and a hub for migration. As such, we also engage closely with issues of particular importance in the Canadian context. This includes research on labour market integration, settlement and inclusion in large cities as well as smaller urban and regional centres, pathways from temporary to permanent status, and the social, political, and health dimensions of migration in Canada. Together, this global and Canada-focused work reflects the Institute鈥檚 commitment to understanding migration.
