Rethinking migration and belonging for migrants in an unequal South Africa: A Soli*City international roundtable. (November 10, 2025)

This roundtable brings together scholars and civil society actors to unpack and reflect on the historical roots of exclusion, the lived realities of migrants, and the collective responsibility to transform South Africa into a space of solidarity rather than scapegoating. We will explore strategies, challenges, and emerging practices that can inform both academic research and practical responses in different local and international contexts. The first roundtable will feature insights from James Chapman (Head of Advocacy at the Scalabrini Centre, Cape Town), Dale McKinley (Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia [KAAX]), and Nomkhosi Mbatha (PhD Candidate, University of the Western Cape).
