Environmental Health and Safety eLearning

It is required that all employees at ³ÉÈË´óƬ complete some basic online training to stay safe and informed in the workplace. In compliance with Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) , this now includes Environmental Health and Safety eLearning.

All employees required to complete the training

This legislation applies to all employees, including but not limited to ³ÉÈË´óƬ supervisors, senior administration, faculty, contract lecturers, staff, and students in paid and unpaid positions. Even if you completed training when you were first hired, you are required to complete this new training.

Paid and unpaid student interns are included

The law requires mandatory environmental health and safety training for both paid and unpaid workers. This includes student interns in research placements, practicums, exchanges, zones and thesis-related activity working at ³ÉÈË´óƬ.

³ÉÈË´óƬ faculty and staff who will be retaining and supervising interns are required to ensure interns complete the training, which will prepare them to be safe and informed in the workplace.

Training

EHS training incorporates all of the content required by the MOL legislation with ³ÉÈË´óƬ-specific examples, including:

  • the role of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and internal responsibility system;
  • the duties and rights of workers, supervisors, ³ÉÈË´óƬ and the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC);
  • hazards at ³ÉÈË´óƬ; and
  • how to obtain more information about health and safety.

Information on how to access the training is available at the D2L eLearning Instructions page on the EHS website.
